Assuming the printer has a small print server device, is connected to the network and is turned on...

1) Configure the print server with a static IP address outside the range that is handed out via DHCP. Document this IP address for future reference.

OR

1a) Configure the Windows DHCP server with an IP address reservation for the print server.

2) Install the printers on the Windows server by running the "Add New Printer" wizard. Follow thesse steps:

Moving mail between computers can be kind of tricky. Especially if you're crossing platforms. Options include:

* Abandoning the mail on the old computer - even though this is an option it is undesirable.

* Copying the mail via IMAP (which changes the received date). Account size limits may require copying the mail in batches. Also losing the received date is a problem.

How to set up a new user on an existing computer

Assuming Windows is installed and the computer is joined to the domain, follow these steps.

1) Log in with the Domain Administrator account.

2) Add a domain user account to the computer. (Start | Settings | Control Panels | Users). At SFGC, most users are in the restricted Users group.

3) Log in using the user's username and password. If the password is not known, it can be reset on the server.

4) Start Outlook and set it up.

5) Add printers.

6) Configure desktop shortcuts.

How to set up a new computer.

Assuming Windows is installed and operational, follow these steps.

1) Physically set up the new computer and connect it to the network.

2) Log in using the local administrator account and install Windows updates.

3) Join the computer to the domain. (In Windows XP, right-click on My Computer, choose Properties, click Computer Name tab).

4) Install any necessary software.

5) Add a domain user account to the computer.

6) Proceed to set up user profile if necessary.
