Hosting your own Event Registration

I have been having trouble finding Event Reistration solutions that can be hosted in house. I am not overly impressed with services that charge $3-$6 per reistrant when my clients are registering thousands of participants every year. To be paying these kinds of fees rather than using an in house hosted solution with a far lower cost seems much more rational. Most of my clients are already involved in some form of credit card processing.

Tools for cleaning up Word HTML

A question from Angus Grieve-Smith posted to the Riders-Tech listserv inspired me to post this page. Please add to the list if you know of any tools.

Boxer might do it.1
Dreamweaver has long offered a "clean up word HTML" feature which works well.2
HTML Tidy looks useful and is free open source software.2
Word 2000 can output to "compact HTML" if a free filter is installed.2
Word 2003 can save to "filtered HTML" that is pretty clean. (Anyone know if Word 2002 can do this?).2
Wordcleaner was made for this task.2

1. Windows Updates
2. Anti-virus software.
3. Microsoft Office (or other office suite)
4. Updates for Microsoft Office
5. Any line-of-business applications
6. Download and install decompression utility such as FreeZip.
7. Download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader.
8. Install Flash and any other desired multimedia players (RealPlayer, for example)
9. Turn on Automatic Updates
10. Disable Windows Firewall
11. Set up user on computer

Create a Mac File Share in Windows Server 2003

Services for Macintosh (SFM) was introduced with Windows 2000 Server and is still a part of the OS in Windows Server 2003. There are a couple of differences, though, which threw me off the first time I encountered them.

Authentication and Mac OS 9

In order to connect to a Mac File Share on Windows Server 2003, the client must have the Microsoft UAM installed. This authentication module is stored in a file share on the Windows server. But the client can't connect to the file share until the software is installed. One solution is to temporarily reduce the security level of the Mac File Share by permitting unencrypted connections. Then after installing the authentication module the security level can be increased again.
