UPDATE: I've finally attached the presentation. And you can find the complete list of resoucrs (ncluding extras not mentioned in the presentation) on my Del.icio.us Spin2006 list.
I will be giving a presentation at this year's Spin Academy (the application process is already closed). The session description is below. Once I have completed the materials for the presentation, they will be available linked to this post. In the meantime, I am helping organize another conference, the CTN Summer Conference - so I will likely not have materials ready before Monday, Aug 14th.
Beyond email: Effective (and cheap) online tools for community building.
The session will explore how nonprofits are creating networks - of information, of stories, of people - with online community-building tools. Many of these tools are inexpensive (or free), and move beyond the classic models of email, discussion lists and forums. What are the best ways to extend your work in the real world to the on-line world? How do you discover new supporters of your work? How do you tap into the voices of passionate supporters, and deal with the challenges of releasing control of your message?
Technologically, we will be focused on open-source blog tools, tagging, RSS readers and aggregators, and creating searches that collect information about your organization and your issue areas.
