Assuming the printer has a small print server device, is connected to the network and is turned on...
1) Configure the print server with a static IP address outside the range that is handed out via DHCP. Document this IP address for future reference.
OR
1a) Configure the Windows DHCP server with an IP address reservation for the print server.
2) Install the printers on the Windows server by running the "Add New Printer" wizard. Follow thesse steps:
- Click Start | Settings | Printers | Add New Printer
- Click Next to begin the Add Printer Wizard.
- Local or Network Printer: Select "local printer" and uncheck the box next to "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer". Click next.
- Select the Printer Port: Select "New Port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" from the pull-down menu. Click next.
- A new window will open titled "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard". Click next to begin the wizard.
- Add Port: Enter the IP address for the print server device. Click next.
- Additional Port Information Required: Accept the standard Generic Network Card and click Next.
- Click Finish to complete adding the TCP/IP port.
- When the Add Printer Wizard appears, proceed through the steps to add the printer. If the printer is not listed, direct the wizard to the driver on the CD that came with the printer.
- On the Printer Sharing tab, choose to share the printer.
- Choose to print a test page and finish the wizard.
To connect a client computer to the network printer:
- Click Start | Run and enter the path to the server: \\servername. Click OK to browse resources on the server.
- Right-click the network printer and choose "Connect". The printer will be installed.
