Welcome! We have finally launched the new site design which includes a number of new features. Below is a summary of what's new and how things have changed from the 'beta' version.

Working Groups

To better organize the site content and encourage member contribution, we've moved from a category and forum structure to using Working Groups.

We've implemented Drupal's Organic Groups module to create Working Groups which have the following features:

Definitions of Success in Software Development

Submitted by patelmiteshb on 2008, May 2 - 2:23am.

A software development project is successful if it delivers the value expected for no more than the cost expected. This means.

• The software is ready on time.
• Creating the software cost what it was supposed to cost.
• The software does what it needs to do.
• The software is not crippled by bugs.
• The software gets used, and does make a positive impact. It is valuable.

The first two, of course, are often related to each other. The time we
spend to make software is a big part of the cost, because the largest cost

Software Outsourcing

Submitted by patelmiteshb on 2008, May 1 - 2:35am.

Software outsourcing is a job contract awarded by a contracting party from a country to a company having a team of human resource with a definite skill set sitting in another country. On completion of the proposed job the software is shipped to the clients organization.

Membership & Association Management Software - Managing Online Member Services

Submitted by agito on 2008, February 28 - 7:43am.

Not Membership Software and Association Management Software is equal to the task of managing the membership information of volunteer and non-profit organizations and associations. Most such organizations simply lack the resources to devote to proactive membership management. The answer to this common problem is to automate online member services and integrate them with your membership software.

Hosting your own Event Registration

Submitted by aarondm on 2007, June 28 - 11:48pm.

I have been having trouble finding Event Reistration solutions that can be hosted in house. I am not overly impressed with services that charge $3-$6 per reistrant when my clients are registering thousands of participants every year. To be paying these kinds of fees rather than using an in house hosted solution with a far lower cost seems much more rational. Most of my clients are already involved in some form of credit card processing.

Are technology projects a source of frustration, confusion, or excessive cost within your organization? Are you curious about whether you're following best practices and selecting the best tools as you apply technology in your programs and operations? Would you like to meet others solving similar problems and facing similar challenges?

Managing Nonprofit Technology Projects is an event series designed to help you better manage technology projects in your nonprofit or as a consultant to nonprofits. Idealware and Aspiration are hosting our second Nonprofit Technology Project Management event in Oakland, California on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 20th and 21st, 2008. The first event in New York was a big success, and sold out well in advance.

A detailed agenda for the event is now available at http://mntp.aspirationtech.org/index.php/Event_Agenda. The agenda will continue to evolve up to and during the event, as we dialog with participants and strive to meet specific needs in the domain of technology project management for nonprofits.

Informal, information-rich, discussion-based sessions will allow participants to compare processes, tools, successes, and lessons learned. We will discuss areas such as team collaboration, project planning, software selection, migration, and project roll-out, and map out the software tools – from project management packages to collaborative communication to issue tracking and more – that support successful technology projects.

Complete details are at
http://www.aspirationtech.org/events/mntp-sf

and you can register directly at

And please blog it, forward it, and otherwise let folks know about this unique event.

We look forward to seeing you there!
