From training needs assessment through delivery, this template guides you through the creation of an appropriate training plan for your the IT Manager.

The document is also attached below.

1.1.1      Create a training plan for the IT manager.

[Instructions: Read through this paragraph carefully and customize appropriately]

[ORGANIZATION]’s IT Manager, [ADMINISTRATOR], is a self-taught “accidental techie who has received very little formal training.  [ADMINISTRATOR] has supported [ORGANIZATION] very well through the knowledge she has gained from her experience; however, a lack of formal training on many of the systems may prevent her from working most effectively, slowing response times, and requiring more expensive outside services to respond to emergencies such as network or server failures.

With the additional knowledge from formal training, [ADMINISTRATOR] would be a more effective technology manager and implementer. Additional knowledge of best practices, server administration, security issues, and an expanded understanding of the full capabilities of [ORGANIZATION]’s systems such as Microsoft Exchange would make [ADMINISTRATOR] even more effective in ensuring [ORGANIZATION]’s ability to service its clients.

Recommendation

  • CompuMentor recommends that [ADMINISTRATOR] attend intermediate-level trainings for the products that she supports such as Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Microsoft Exchange.  This training can be accomplished by attending classes or using online training courses.
  • [ADMINISTRATOR] should prioritize which skills and technologies she considers he needs the most improvement in.  These skills should be relevant to supporting [ORGANIZATION]’s technology infrastructure, including:
    • [Instructions:  Customize as needed]
    • Network file and print sharing basics
    • Lab-environment management of user logins and user preferences
    • Network and Internet security
    • Internet access setup, sharing (e.g. DHCP and NAT) and maintenance
    • Database management and maintenance
    • Windows 2000 Domain Services
    • Windows 2000 Security Model and Group Policies
    • Microsoft Exchange
    • Microsoft Access
    • Other specialized applications
  • [ORGANIZATION] should request that any outside technical support services be assisted by [ADMINISTRATOR] so that there is a good knowledge transfer from outside services to [ORGANIZATION]’s internal administrator.
